Frequently Asked Questions

What is the loan period for books? Is it different for videos?

Books, magazines, audiobooks, and music CDs are checked out for 3 weeks. Most videos circulate for 3 weeks, but those in the Hillstown Collection (marked with an HT) are due back in 7 days. Hot Spot titles and Video games circulate for 7 days with no renewals.

Can I renew materials over the phone?

Yes, renewals may be made over the phone, in person, or through our web-based catalog. Items on hold for another patron, and materials that were inter-library loaned from other libraries may not be renewed.

How many books and videos can I check out at one time?

There is no limit to the number of fiction, picture books, audios, videos or magazines that may be borrowed.

I work in Goffstown, but I don’t live here. Am I eligible for a library card?

Yes, library cards are available to any Goffstown resident, person working full-time in Goffstown, or student attending a Goffstown public school. To get your card, stop by the libray with a form of identification showing your address or affiliation.

How do I get a PIN for my library card?

Visit or call the library at 497-2102. We will be happy to assign a 4-digit number of your choosing as your PIN. You can use this PIN to reserve and renew items through our online catalog.

There is a book I want to read that the library does not own. Can you get it for me?

Yes, depending on the potential appeal of the book, we will either purchase it or borrow it from another library.

What daily newspapers do you subscribe to?

We get the New Hampshire Union Leader, the Concord Monitor, and the Boston Globe. Newspapers are located on the 3rd floor of the library, along with some comfortable seating.

Can I get an e-mail account through the library?

The library does have public Internet access. Several websites on the Internet (such as hotmail and yahoo!) offer free e-mail.

Do you have meeting rooms available for public use?

The library has a conference room for library sponsored activities and meetings. Due to its limited size, however, and because it doubles as a staff work area, it is no longer available as a meeting place for outside groups. (per the Library Board of Trustees, October 20, 2004)

Does the library proctor exams?

Yes. If you need to take a test, we will be happy to proctor it for you. While we have no private study areas, we will do our best to find you a space that is reasonably quiet. Please call ahead to make arrangements.

Do you  offer notary public services?

While we don’t have a notary public on staff, there are several notary publics nearby at Town Hall, and TD Bank usually has one on staff as well.
