With the Governor’s extension of the stay-at-home order to May 30, the GPL remains closed to the public. I am working on a phased approach to reopening, that will be measured and intended to keep staff and visitors safe and healthy. This may take many months. My goal is to get the staff back into the library building sometime in June, as long as the stay-at-home order is lifted, so that we can prepare to receive materials and begin parking lot pick-up.

Currently, all materials checked out are now due on dates beginning June 2, 2020; the GPL has 3,753 items out in the community.

What you can do now:

  • Learn how to log into your library account from home so you know when materials are due for return; get started at If you need help, please email us at and one of our awesome librarians will help.
  • Pay attention to communications from us that will be sent prior to June 2; please add to your email address book.
  • Plan to return materials on the exact day they are due if possible; we do not have the capacity to accept hundreds of items at once and quarantine them safely for our staff prior to cleaning and reshelving.

Even when closed, our staff is busy:

  • Our staff continues to work from home and misses you all. We are all anxious to get back to work together!
  • We continue to monitor email: for assistance with our online resources & services.
  • The chat service is available on our website, monitored by Michelle and Elizabeth.
  • Our YouTube Live story times & book talks continue, along with how-to videos and more.
  • Our 24/7 e-library is always available with your GPL card at

Up-to-date information will be posted at, and through social media. I will also continue to update you through our e-newsletter. You can subscribe at

Be well.
